Our Recommendations
- La Confiteria Ideal is a beautiful cafe that was a historic Tango hall and famous for milongas. It opened in 1912 and closed in 2017 for extensive renovations by a team of specialists in bronze, wood, stucco, leaf gilding, and stained glass. It reopened in December 2022. - EcoParque (Plaza Italia, Av Sarmiento 2601): a free former zoo, is a great place to take a slow stroll through the park and see a lot of animals, including giraffe, ostrich, and elephants.
- El Ateneo Grand Splendid (Av Santa Fe 1860) – named the “world’s most beautiful bookstore” by National Geographic. A former theater “Grand Splendid” which opened in 1919, was converted into a bookstore and is now a beautiful place to see and explore. The theater’s stage has been converted into a cafe.

- World Tango Museum at Rivadavia Av. 830. The museum traces the history of Tango from 1850 until the present day and includes an exhibition of photographs of major Tango artists by Annemarie Heinrich. There’s also a shop selling CDs and other items

- Bus hop-on/hop-off around the city: Buenos Aires Bus (yellow line) is the better one. Check out their route around the city. Best to do the full 3-4 hour tour and just stay on the bus, and go early as it’s popular.
- Movie theaters: https://www.cinemarkhoyts.com.ar/ – for American movies spoken in English with Spanish subtitles, look for “Subtitulada” (subtitled) in the showing details, otherwise if it says “Casellano” (Spanish) then it will be spoken in Spanish without English subtitles.

Hotels
- Hotels charge a 21% IVA tax, but if you pay with a foreign credit card, this tax is not included. As of December 2022, now that foreign issued Visa and MasterCards use a rate that is is 10% below the blue rate, it is better to use a foreign credit card than cash
- If you want to pay in cash with pesos, then book using www.booking.com and choose to pay the entire amount at the hotel. This way you pay in pesos, which you can convert at blue rate.

Save 50% on Domestic flights in Argentina: instead of paying for flights for Aerolineas Argentina online (which uses the official exchange rate), you can save ~50% by using the Blue rate and paying in pesos cash via one of these methods:

If your flight is within the next 48 hours, go to their office at the AEP airport (inside the city) and pay in cash. - Go to Aerolineas Argentina’s central office at Peru 2 to book & pay in cash.
- Book online at https://flybondi.com/ar, and choose Rapipago or Pagofacil as the payment method. You’ll get a code that you use to pay in the local Pagofacil or Rapipago offices all over the city (search in Google Maps to find a location nearby) to pay in cash. Reservation is confirmed within a few hours after payment. Reservation expires if not paid within 24 hours. This only works for flights reserved more than 72 hours before take off. Some people report getting a Club La Nacion membership for 20% off.
